Terms of Service
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Living Śāstra (the "Service") provided by the operator of Living Śāstra ("we", "us", "our"), reachable at hello@livingshastra.org. The legal entity behind the Service will be named here once formally incorporated.
By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. The Service
Living Śāstra provides a conversational interface to large language model "agents", each bound to a curated corpus of texts from a particular tradition (initially Ayurveda and Yoga). Answers are generated by AI and include citations to the source passages they draw from.
The Service is informational and educational only. Answers about Ayurveda, Yoga, or any traditional health system are not medical advice, not a diagnosis, and not a substitute for consultation with a qualified healthcare professional. Do not use Service output to make health, medical, dietary, or treatment decisions without consulting a licensed clinician.
2. Your account
To use the paid features of the Service you must create an account with a valid email address. You are responsible for keeping your credentials secure and for all activity under your account. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or our Acceptable Use Policy.
You must be at least 16 years old (or the minimum age required by your country's data protection law, whichever is higher) to create an account.
3. Subscription, billing, and refunds
3.1 Plans
The Service offers a free tier and one or more paid subscription tiers (currently "Sādhaka"). Pricing is shown on our pricing page and adjusted by region under our Purchasing Power Parity policy.
3.2 Billing
Paid subscriptions are billed monthly through Lemon Squeezy (Sold through Link, LLC), which acts as the Merchant of Record. Lemon Squeezy collects and remits applicable taxes (VAT, GST, sales tax) and provides invoices.
3.3 Auto-renewal
Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from your Lemon Squeezy customer portal; you keep access through the end of the period you have already paid for.
3.4 Refunds
Because the Service is a digital service delivered immediately on subscription, by starting your subscription you consent to immediate delivery and acknowledge that your right to withdraw under the UK Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 ends at that point. Outside that statutory position we may, at our discretion, offer a pro-rata refund within 14 days of a billing event if the Service has been materially unavailable or has not functioned as described — email us with the details.
4. Acceptable use
Your use of the Service is also governed by our Acceptable Use Policy. Violating the AUP is a breach of these Terms.
5. Content and intellectual property
5.1 The corpus and the Service
The classical Sanskrit texts the agents draw from are in the public domain. The curation, indexing, retrieval system, prompts, UI, branding, and all other elements of the Service are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by intellectual property law.
5.2 Your inputs
You retain ownership of the questions and prompts you submit to the Service ("Inputs"). By submitting them you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to process them for the purpose of operating the Service, improving model quality, debugging, and complying with law. We do not sell your Inputs to third parties.
5.3 Outputs
To the extent we hold any rights in the Service's responses to you ("Outputs"), we assign those rights to you. You may use Outputs for personal, educational, or commercial purposes, subject to:
- compliance with the licence of the underlying source texts (most are public domain, but verify before reusing direct quotations at length);
- acknowledgement that AI Outputs may be inaccurate, incomplete, or include "hallucinated" attributions — you are responsible for verifying claims against the cited sources before relying on them;
- compliance with our Acceptable Use Policy.
6. Third-party services
The Service depends on third-party providers including Anthropic (LLM inference), Hetzner (hosting), Brevo (transactional email), and Lemon Squeezy (billing). See the Privacy Policy for the full list and what data they process. We are not responsible for outages or changes in those services.
7. Warranty disclaimer
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the maximum extent permitted by law we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that Outputs are accurate, that the Service will be uninterrupted, or that defects will be corrected.
8. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability to you arising out of or related to the Service in any 12-month period is limited to the greater of (a) the amounts you paid us for the Service in that 12-month period or (b) £100. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or loss of business, even if advised of the possibility.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be excluded under English law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
9. Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time and delete your account from the settings page. We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these Terms or the AUP, after reasonable notice where practicable. On termination, your licence to use the Service ends; clauses that by their nature should survive (intellectual property, disclaimers, liability, governing law) will survive.
10. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The version and last-updated date at the top of this page reflect the current version. Material changes will be notified to you by email at least 14 days before they take effect; continued use of the Service after that constitutes acceptance.
11. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes will be handled exclusively by the courts of England and Wales, except where non-derogable consumer-protection law gives you the right to bring proceedings in the courts of your country of residence.
